5 Reasons Why You Can’t Seem to Lose Weight (Katy’s Korner)
Maintaining a healthy body weight is essential to having great over-all health. If you feel like you’re putting a lot of effort into slimming down but getting nowhere, there’s probably something wrong. Here’s 5 common reasons you may be having trouble losing weight:
1. You’re always hungry! There’s a few reasons why you might have the constant urge to munch. One is an imbalance of leptin. Leptin is a chemical made by your body that tells your brain when it’s full. Aerobic exercise can help promote Leptin production. While you’re at it, try drinking green tea. It’s been shown to help you feel satiated throughout the day. Make sure to steer clear of food with empty calories: food that is high in carbs or fat and has almost no protein or vitamins.
2. Your health-food may not be as healthy as you think. Take a minute to review the ingredient list on the packages of food items that say “low-fat.” Often low fat means high carb. All that extra sugar can be just as detrimental to your weight loss goals as the fat you’re trying to avoid. A better approach to eating right is to avoid processed foods altogether and prepare your own meals, that way you see exactly what will be going into your stomach.
3. Alcohol may be your enemy. Alcohol has quite a bite, so the bartender may try to mask it with the sweet stuff. A small apple martini is around 240 calories, so having two means you just used a fourth of your daily recommended calorie allowance on a drink with no nutritional value. Alcohol has also been shown to lower your inhibitions even when it comes to eating! You are more likely to over-eat and eat heavier food when you are under the influence of the devil’s juice.
4. You have a slow metabolism. Metabolism relates to how fast your body burns calories. A girl with a fast metabolism will lose weight faster than a girl with a slow metabolism even if they eat identical foods and do the same amount of exercise. Clues that your metabolism may be sluggish include gaining inches in areas that were never problem areas before, increased appearance of cellulite, and constipation. Fortunately, aerobic exercise and eating foods full of fiber and antioxidants can help up ramp up your metabolism in a short amount of time.
5. You’re being sabotaged. It’s a shame, but it happens. Jealousy can arise when you start losing weight and feeling your best. If you’ve shared your low-carb diet plans with someone who constantly tempts you with chocolate cake, be cautious. Distance yourself from negative influences on your health. Identifying what’s hindering your progress can help you regain momentum. Remember, even small progress is still progress. Be kind to yourself on your weight-loss journey!
